Independence Day is a time to honor the men and women who have served our country. It is a day to gather with friends and family and enjoy activities such as barbecuing, swimming, and watching fireworks.
This is the second year that I have been on the road for the Fourth of July and I was eager to see what Denton, Texas had in store for our RV team and Fresh Traveler.
When I am back home, my family goes all out on the Fourth of July and I have to say that after this year’s visit to Denton, Texas, the Fourth will be hard to top.
We felt honored to participate in Denton’s annual Yankee Doddle parade in the morning. Riding through the streets and waving at the members in the community showed what a friendly town Denton was and how our visit meant so much to them.
As the day progressed, outdoor actives started to pick up when Fresh Traveler did Mounted Shooting. Mounted Shooting is riding horses while at the same time shooting guns. A scary combination for first timers but Patricia and Anna showed true athleticism by completing the challenge with ease.
Shooting guns and horse back riding was followed by a BBQ and pool party hosted by a local family in Denton. We learned more about the town and the people during our visit and believed that it was the people in Denton who made the atmosphere fun.
As dusk finally settled, the members in Denton eagerly awaited the start of the fireworks show at the University of North Texas’ old stadium, Foutus Field.
Our trip ended with a night of cheering and singing along to music by Journey’s, “Don’t Stop Believin'” all while having FUN in Denton, Texas.
