Eating Local: Steckler Grassfed
Steckler Family Farm
Staying in Santa Claus, IN and wanting some fresh organic cheese and eggs, we explore a newly inaugurated family-owned, pasture-based, certified organic farm in the nearby Southern Indiana town of St. Henry.
I’m enjoying the experience of talking to Charmain, a Steckler daughter, a member of the family actually making the cheese and gathering the eggs. She assures us that the cows are treated very well. We meet the cows and she takes me to the processing facility where I see the machines that they use to milk the cows.
She shows us the room where the cheese is made. And the blocks of recently made cheese. It’s nice to see where your food comes from and know that there are absolutely no chemicals or preservatives in them. We taste some samples and it’s fresh and absolutely delicious!
