Punkin ready for chunkin
How many good ideas have come from hanging out with friends and someone daring someone to something silly “what would happen if we chucked some pumpkins?” Back in 1986 a group of bored, but inventive friends asked that very question. Suddenly there was a dare involved and the Punkin Chunkin Association was born.
Fast forward to now, the event is three days complete with thousands of visitors who come from far and wide to see what happens with pumpkins are catapulted into the air. This is where pumpkin flinging is a serious sport. Competitors see who can catapult their gourd the farthest. Beyond the flying squash there are cooking contests including a chili cook off and pie making.
Punkin Chunkin will be held east of Bridgeville, Delaware, from Nov 5th – 7th, 2010. Telephone (302) 684-8196. http://www.punkinchunkin.com
