NEWS: It's A Bright Night As Milwaukee's Domes Show Off Its New Look

The Domes

Milwaukee, Wisc.—Closed since the summer, The Domes in Mitchell Park reopened earlier this month—literally rolling out the red carpet to show off its new LED lights and 800 panes of glass. The Domes, immediately a Milwaukee landmark upon completion in the 1960s, have hundreds of species of plants on display in three themed structures joined by a central lobby. The arid dome, filled with plants from Africa and desert regions, and the tropical dome are both favorite spots for a brief sojourn from Wisconsin’s long winters.

Thanks to donations totaling over $500,000, the new LED lighting system as well as the installation of over 800 panes of exterior glass were completed. On the exterior, the LED lights now put the Domes aglow at night, and on the inside the “green” lights illuminate pathways. While visiting, don’t miss the blue moon installed on the roof of the arid dome. The Domes are open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the rest of the month.
