Houston, Texas—This blog has a new set of road models. Aboard their Volkswagen Jetta TDI, John and Helen Taylor broke the Guinness World Record last month for lowest fuel consumption on a road trip across the continental U.S. The couple drove 9,419 miles over 22 days and used an astonishing low 12 tanks of Shell diesel gas. It was at a cost of about .069 cents per mile. The Taylors got over 58 miles per gallon, surpassing the old record by more than 7 mpg.
